Nothing says wholesome family fun like Edmund McMillen’s creepy roguelike The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+, which is now slated to launch alongside the Nintendo Switch in North America.
So far its release has only been announced for North America, but publisher Nicalis, Inc. is campaigning for a European launch too. It’s currently asking for retweets on Twitter.
Comparatively, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and all of the DLC included in this Switch release (Afterbirth and Afterbirth+) comes down to $35.97 in the US or 25.97 in the UK on Steam, the only platform thus far that has the newly released Afterbirth+.
That may sound expensive, but even the parent game alone is still 10.99 / $14.99 on platforms like PS4, Vita, Xbox One, and the newly released iOS version, while the expansions are 7.99 / $10.99 each.
Set in the ever-expanding infernal basement of an abused child, The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ follows the forlorn Isaac as he battles the horrific demons that have plagued his unspeakably torturous life. It’s chilling stuff, yet leant an air of gallows humour with its vaguely cutesy rendition of unholy torment. To wit: Isaac fights the hordes of hell with his tears. Indeed his vulnerability is his strength.
