Nvidia RTX 3070 graphics card: coming soon to these retailers

The RTX 3070 reviews are live – and the cards themselves aren’t too far off either. The new graphics card has perhaps the easiest sell of any of the Ampere GPUs Nvidia has announced so far: RTX 2080 Ti performance – Nvidia’s previous flagship card – at less than half the price. Our RTX 3070 review shows that the card more or less lives up to that promise, and given its advancements elsewhere, in areas like HDMI 2.1 support, AV1 decoding and faster ray-tracing, it’s a pretty solid purchase. Nvidia chose to delay the card’s launch for two weeks, but we’re still expecting incredible demand and low supply – so getting to the right place early is critical. Here are the best places in the US and UK to pick up your new RTX 3070 once we reach the 29th October release date.

So why is this card so hotly anticipated? Put simply, it brings the advancements of Nvidia’s Ampere GPUs like the RTX 3080 and 3090 down to a more mainstream price point, while still offering more than enough performance for the 1080p and 1440p screens that are the most popular amongst gamers. If you’re building a mid-range to high-end rig, this is a great choice with a good degree of future-proofing, thanks to HDMI 2.1 support, 8GB of VRAM and DLSS/RT capabilities.

All that is to say that this card is expected to go fast, even though Nvidia has claimed that a greater number of cards will be available, so here’s what you need to know.

Stock is expected to sell out quickly, so do consider checking a second or even third retailer if you aren’t able to order from your normal go-to! How fast is the RTX 3070?

The RTX 3070 is about 60 per cent as fast as the incredible RTX 3080, for about 60 per cent of the cost, based on our tests at 4K. That margin drops at 1080p and 1440p, where the CPU is more of a bottleneck, making the RTX 3070 the ideal choice at these resolutions. From a GTX 1070 or GTX 1080, you’ll normally see a doubling of frame-rate, although this does change on a per-game basis. Compared to the RTX 2080 Ti, the RTX 3070 is about the same – slightly slower in some games, slightly faster than others, depending on whether you go for a card that is overclocked out of the box (such as the 2080 Ti Founders Edition we tested) or not (like the RTX 3070 Founders Edition). For more details, check our RTX 3070 review.

That excellent price to performance suggests that the card is likely to join our round-up of the best graphics cards very soon.

What’s the RTX 3070 price?

Nvidia’s official recommended retail prices for the RTX 3070 start at $500/£450/€520. This could increase depending on the retailer and the specification of the card, as custom versions from other partners may receive some factory overclocking to boost performance, more ports or other additions. However, the Nvidia Founders Edition will remain at the stated price – unlike previous generation cards, which came at a premium for the FE model.

Remember, with any RTX 3070 order from a participating retailer you’ll also get a free copy of Watch Dogs Legion and a 12-month subscription to Geforce Now.
